Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions about The Room at Coulter's, or about the project you have in mind, we hope you'll get in touch so we can talk them over. In the meantime, take a look at the answers to questions we hear most often.

  • Is the room part of Coulter's?
  • The Room at Coulter's is an independent company, under its own distinct ownership and management.
  • Do I have to shop at Coulter's to use your services?
  • You should feel comfortable using our services whether or not you plan to shop at Coulter's. We can help you plan and implement your design using furnishings from a variety of sources.
  • Aren't professional designers expensive?
  • While we do charge for our services, there's a good chance that bringing a professional designer in on your project will reduce your total costs. We can help you consider your options and avoid costly mistakes, saving you money in the long run.
  • Do I really need a professional designer for my project?
  • About.com offers a seven-point quiz that may help you decide if you should hire a professional for your project. If you are overwhelmed about where to start, need help creating an accurate floor plan, are tired of being second-guessed by friends and relatives, have trouble finding what you want, or find your current space lacks a unified look - a professional designer is probably right for you.
  • Is a designer the same thing as a decorator?
  • In general, a "decorator" works with applying color and finishes to the room as it is (adding floorcoverings, paint, fabrics, windowcoverings, etc.) A "designer" (in addition to the decorator jobs), also works with space planning, remodeling, choosing and designing built-ins, working with the systems and infastructure of a room or building.
